Deric Terrell, Chief Instructor, 4th Degree Black Belt. I believe that my 23 years of experience in the Shaolin Kempo System will provide you with the most up to date professional Martial Arts training available. My personal goal is to reach, teach, and equip as many people as possible with the Kempo System.

My Martial Arts training dates back to January 1985. As a young child I started studying the art of Shaolin Ch'uan Fa, (Kempo Karate) studying under Master Robert LaMattina, 7th Degree Black Belt. As I progressed in my training advancing through the ranks I was in pursuit of my goal. Almost five years later, in December 1989, I was promoted to 1st Degree Black Belt. It was then I knew that I did not want to have the Martial Arts as just an interest or hobby. I not only wanted to experience Kempo to the fullest, but I desire a deeper understanding of the techniques. I wanted to teach the Kempo System. After many, months, and time under supervised training, I gained the knowledge and experience of teaching. By November of 1990, I was promoted to 2nd Degree Black Belt.

In December, 1990 I joined the United States Marine Corps. The Martial Arts were never far from my mind and heart. I still trained on my own and kept the passion of Kempo in my heart. During my time in the Corps I tried other martial art styles, but nothing compared to the well-rounded Kempo System. After four years with the Marines I was honorably discharged. I then resumed my studies under Master Frank Ley, 6th Degree Black Belt, and Hans Prosch 5th Degree. I accomplished another goal of becoming a full time Instructor with United Studios of Self Defense in January, 1995 under Head Master Charles Mattera 10th Degree. In 1996 I was promoted to 3rd Degree Black Belt. On a trip to the Shaolin Temple in China with USSD I tested and acheived the rank of 4th Degree Black Belt in July 2001. Now I continue to train with United Studios to improve my own skills, and to reach new goals, such as a proficient and professional Instructor.

In addition to martial arts training I am also certified in child, adult, infant and AED CPR, as well as basic/pediatric first aid certified..
